Ars docendi 4:
Vorwort – premessa – Foreword [Adami]
The penultimate issue of the first year of Ars docendi focuses primarily on texts and reflections from the German-speaking world.
Renate Oswald, headmistress of the Bundesgymnasium Rein (near Graz), and Martina Adami, headmistress of the Walther von der Vogelweide High School in Bolzano, reflect on the measures and consequences of the lockdown as they relate to their schools.
Matthias Korn, representative for classical languages and their teaching at the University of Leipzig, tells us about a symposium (the summary was written together with Günter Kiefer). It was the fourth symposium in a series of conferences entitled ‘Prospects for Latin in Schools’, dedicated to the theme ‘Memory for the future – bridges from antiquity to the present day – The importance of a culture of remembrance for training and education’. The fifth symposium in the series is already in preparation and will focus on the theme of correction and assessment of written work at school and a crucial question: Latin lessons in a world that has become aclassical and “modern” – what should change?
Finally, Rainer Weissengruber describes the wonderful workshop “I Classici delle Sedici” in Genoa, directed by Professor Andrea Del Ponte.
We hope to continue in future issues with this fascinating exchange between the Italian school system and the German-speaking world, with references to events that are important for schools and our subjects – even if nothing is easy at the moment.
However, seeing what we are sent, we are confident that we are working with the utmost caution, self-awareness, imagination and commitment – truly believing in the importance of our subjects even in the 21st century.
